I'm back! Updates now! As a warning the last two topics get overly long, so if you just want the cliff notes, there's a TL;DR at the end of this entry:
So, far mostly done. I've got two more chapters to work out and it's on to thumbnails. I think these next six chapters will be a lot more exciting to go through, especially now since all the main characters have been introduced and I can get a bit less episodic with the chapters. All I can say is Volken's trip to New Arum won't be an easy one, but it also won't be overly long.
With me still readjusting and working out a new color/toning method, it's gonna be a bit later than October... Can't honestly say how much later yet, but I tend to get things done early than I think I can, so no worries about me disappearing for long periods of time!
The other reason for the deadline extension comes from an extra bit of busywork I gotta get done for pages on Tapastic. Since most of the readers there read webcomics on mobile, there's a need to 'keep up with the Joneses' and accommodate, and by that, I mean chop the pages up into larger, separate panels readable on mobile.
...I kinda wish they'd just make a separate system that'd work for full pages, even smackjeeves
had a better desktop to mobile idea, and it didn't require you to create a second set of files for those readers that couldn't be bothered to just flip the dang phone on it's side!!
Eh... but ranting does nothing... Just know that my reason for setting the time back comes from needing to make two different buffers from now on...
So... Is the comic gonna be in color, or nah?
No, I'm joking, the rest of The Lostland will be in full blown color! Because I'm a masochist!
I've gotta appologise to the folks who picked partial color though, since I essentially made your opinion seem like it meant nothing by going against majority rule and all...
Please take it easy on me, fellas! I did hear some really good points in defense of partial color, and I did agree with them, but I do have a few reasons for going on this route, if you'll hear me out:-I needed a new source of motivation
Because I essentially stopped challenging myself after Chapter 4, which did pretty well, personally, and showed I was improving when it came to comic-ing... And then I started to settle in and get lazy, which hurt my own productivity and Chapter 5 quite a bit.(Also explains why this chapter got more late pages than the others) Experimenting with color and noticeably messing up again, reminds me I've still got plenty to learn, and that in a way is kind of exciting to me.
-I need the extra challenge
My own improvement's slowed to a noticeable crawl in the recent chapters, I'm also not stepping out of my comfort zone nearly as much, which was easier to do back when I started out. So here's a huge leap out of comfort zone and into something slightly more alien, since, well I almost never color digitally until now(at least not 100%).
-It's... just more interesting to look at
Yeah it's.. a really dumb reason and there's plenty of metrics and things to explain why going full color was a better idea, but when you do a side-by-side comparison of both test pages, I can see why it's more eye-catching. Good work, Sherlock Self.
And that's about all. Sorry about the extension on the deadline, trust me I'm anxious to put up anything right now, but I think this new volume will benefit more from me not rushing things this time around. Thanks for all your patience and I hope you'll stick around for all the new, exciting stuff. See ya next next update!
There's a special place in Tartarus for TL;DR readers.... Jk! jk!
....It's the Monad Block, though, if you were wondering.(wild persona 3 reference)
-I'm just about 2 chpaters away from finishing the vol.2 script
-The deadline for Chapter 6 got extended to November because
-There's a bit more busy work involved to get things ready on the tapastic mirror and
-The Lostland will be in full color. Meaning more time needed to create buffers and the like.
See ya next update!
